Motion picture squels aren’t a modern invention; they were big business in the 1930s. One of the biggest series of the 1930s was the rebooted Tarzan based on the books by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Starring in the Tarzan movies were Johnny Weissmuller (swimmer and water polo player and medalist in the 1924 and ‘28 Olympics) and the lovely Maureen O’Sullivan. Their onscreen charisma obviously attracted the ad team for Coca-Cola, resulting in this now-iconic 1934 tray.
